Origins and History: Today’s Persian was obtained by first crossing an Italian and a Turkish
Persian, and then breeding the resulting kitten with Angora cats. The variety of colours and
coat patterns (which extends to over 200 types) is the results of purposeful breeding. The
“Peke face” emerged in 1930.
Being the most popular breed in the world, the Persian probably was an instrument to the
creation of the Burmese and the British Shorthair.
Personality: They are calm and docile house cats, who enjoy a sedentary lifestyle. They are also
often affectionate.
Additional notes: It will hit puberty by the age of 12 months and matures at 2 years. They must
be groomed daily.
